Talked with the Mayor

350px-boll_weevil_monumentI had a conversation with the Mayor the other night. It was an informative conversation, at least for me. It was an honor to talk with a true patriot who has served our country admirably for many years and is now serving our community. Enterprise is fortunate to have a man of his caliber willing and motivated to be a servant leader with the best interests of all its citizens at heart. If that surprises you, keep reading…

We talked about his plans for the next four years and how it will be different than the past 13 years. He plans to be very transparent and welcomes input from the citizens who elected him on the challenges facing Enterprise and how to address them. If you haven’t figured it out by now this was not the current mayor I was talking to. I was talking to the man I consider the presumptive 21st Mayor of Enterprise, Milton Shipman. If you are also a member of the Enterprise community concerned about its future he wants to talk to you too.

Only 6 weeks left

There are only 6 weeks left until August 23rd. This is the date the citizens of Enterprise will choose the person you want to lead and represent Enterprise for the next four years as Mayor. I believe Milton Shipman is that person and is back home, where he started, for just such a time as this.

I would never be so presumptuous as to tell anyone how they should vote. That is a very personal decision each voter must make on their own. However, I will tell you if I had a vote to cast in this election for Mayor it would be for Milton Shipman.

Milton Shipman_FB Profile

Milton was a senior when I was a sophomore in high school. I remember how he excelled on the football team and in ROTC which helped prepare him for college and his military and corporate career afterward. The leadership experience he has developed during his career after leaving Enterprise has prepared him well for his next servant leadership role as Mayor. He now wants to give back to the community that gave him his start and the place he has always called home.

I encourage you to get out and meet Milton, talk to him, ask him questions, give him feedback and suggestions for what you want to see happen in Enterprise that falls under the purview of city government. He does want to meet you and hear your concerns. Ask him why he is running and why you should vote for him. I am confident if you will make the effort and talk to Milton you will come to the same conclusion I did. You will be excited to tell others what you learned and encourage them to do the same. When August 23rd arrives you will cast your vote for open and transparent leadership for Enterprise in the person of Milton Shipman for Mayor.

RWCC Candidate Forum

Milton participated in the Republican Women of Coffee County Candidate Forum on July 20th at the Enterprise Country Club. You can see that forum at this link – RWCC Candidate Forum – July 20, 2016.

Milton also participated in the Peanuts and Politics forum held by the Enterprise Chamber of Commerce on August 9th at Cutts. You can see that forum at this link – Peanuts and Politics – August 9, 2016.

Other events and contact opportunities

You can see the other scheduled events on his website at shipmanformayor.com/calendar and he will be out and around the city at the ballparks, restaurants and businesses as well.

If you haven’t yet go to his Facebook page at www.facebook.com/ShipForMayor and Like it today. You can keep up with the campaign there as well.

You can also learn more about Milton and his vision for Enterprise at his web site at shipmanformayor.com.

His campaign office is open at 208 South Main Street and he is looking for volunteers to help over the next six weeks. The phone number for the office is 334-406-2404. Give him a call if you have questions or stop by and pick up a yard sign if you want to show your support in that way. Any help will be welcomed and appreciated.

Now is the time

The change you seek is well within your reach but change like this never comes easily. The challengers are always at a disadvantage to the incumbents.  It will require a considerable effort by the people seeking the change. Every conversation, visit, phone call and share on social media counts. Don’t waste this opportunity by assuming “someone else” will do what needs to be done. Be that someone else.

Until next time…

  1. Thanks always enjoy reading your articles it is time for a change in told the current mayor 4 years ago I would never vote for him again even though I grew up around him glad someone is finally running against him

    1. Thanks. I am glad so see someone of Milton’s character is running. It still will be hard because incumbents do have advantages. I hope enough people are ready for a change to do something about it this year.
